Queen Elizabeth's Secret Talent Was Trump Impressions

When you think of Queen Elizabeth II, your mind probably jumps to formal hats, waving from a carriage, or calmly sipping tea during a state function. But behind palace walls, the late monarch had a surprising party trick beyond charming Corgis or encyclopedic knowledge of British history.
According to those who knew her best, Queen Elizabeth had a sharp wit and an uncanny knack for impersonations, including one of the world's most famous couples: Donald and Melania Trump.
The Queen's Secret Talent Comes to Light
That the Queen had a sense of humor wasn't exactly hush-hush, but few outside her inner circle knew the full extent of it.
Prince Harry once told PEOPLE he missed her "cheeky sense of humor" after her passing. That humor, it turns out, included a hilariously deadpan take on both the 45th (and now 47th) President of the United States and his wife.
Over the course of 18 months, during which Donald Trump visited the UK three times, the Queen quietly began honing her impressions. According to the Daily Mail, she grew "adept at impersonating the U.S. President," but their sources don't say what mannerisms or statements she used in her performance.

Yet her impression of Melania Trump truly stuck with her family and friends. An unnamed source who witnessed one of these moments said Her Majesty would "go silent, put on a bored face and eventually mutter: 'I want to be alone' à la Marlene Dietrich," as reported by the Scottish Daily Express.
It was her quiet punchline — a blend of comedy, commentary, and just a hint of sympathy for the First Lady. "It seems the Queen felt sorry for the latest Mrs. Trump," the source added.
A Secret Virtuoso
The Queen's impersonation talents weren't limited to American political figures.
According to longtime friend Monty Roberts, she had a lifelong love for mimicry — a skill she began developing in her teens. In fact, she once told writer Gyles Brandreth that she aspired to be an impressionist, inspired in part by female impersonator Florence Desmond during World War II.

In a statement to HELLO! Magazine, Brandreth recalled: "And the Queen, then as a teenager, began doing impressions. And she said to me, 'Oh, I can still do George Formby.' And there and then the Queen picked up an imaginary ukulele, began strumming it and singing 'When I'm Cleaning Windows' in a perfect Lancashire accent."
According to Brandreth, the Queen could reportedly nail regional dialects across the UK, mimic different horse breeds (yes, horses), and even imitate the sound of a Concorde (a supersonic airliner) landing over Windsor Castle. Think of it as a royal variety hour — only the audience was usually family or a few close friends at a quiet lunch.
Like Great-Grandmother, Like Great-Granddaughter
Turns out, Queen Elizabeth's mimicry skills may be a family trait.
According to royal insiders, 9-year-old Princess Charlotte has also shown a flair for impressions, carrying on her great-grandmother's tradition of comedic mimicry. She is "something of a royal comic in the new monarchy," one insider said to The Royal Observer.
The source added that Charlotte has already begun mimicking political figures at family gatherings, reportedly channeling a few U.S. presidents in her performances.
So, while the Queen's reign will be remembered for its poise and tradition, her legacy includes something far more human — a playful streak that brought laughter behind palace doors and lives on in the next generation.
Who could have guessed that one of the most stoic monarchs in modern history had a Melania impression in her back pocket?
